Mid North South Australia
The Gateway to the South Australian Outback
The Mid-North is a most beautiful region of SA as it magically transforms from the incredible wine, wheat, barley, livestock and copper district at the northern end of the Mount Lofty Ranges to the gateway of the outback at the Southern Flinders Ranges. Australia’s first (and largest) copper towns were founded in the Mid-North after those tendering to livestock found vast areas of mineral outcrops in the region. Following livestock and mining came vineyards and crops. The west of the Mid-North is bordered by Spencer Gulf, an extremely healthy seafood haven. Historic towns aplenty lie within this district (Kapunda, Burra, Clare, Peterborough, Jamestown, Peterborough, Pt Pirie, Pt Augusta, Melrose, Laura and Pt Germein are just a few of many) and each and every one of them steeped in history. A wonderful region to visit and 4 days minimum is recommended.
